Scophthalmus est un genre de poissons plats de la famille des Scophthalmidae. Le nom viendrait des mots grecs σκόπελος (skópelos) et ὀφθαλμός (ophthalmós) « œil », σκόπελος signifiant selon Bailly « promontoire rocheux » et selon P. Romero « poisson-lanterne ».
