John Clavell

John Clavell (1601-1643) était un bandit de grand chemin, un dramaturge, un poète, un avocat et un médecin. On le connaît pour son poème A Recantation of an Ill Led Life (Une abjuration d'une mauvaise vie), et pour sa pièce The Soddered Citizen (Le Citoyen réparé). Sa vie est divisée nettement en deux parties : un début en Angleterre où il grandit, devient un brigand, est condamné, et débute sa reconversion, et une seconde partie qu'il passe en Angleterre et en Irlande comme avocat et médecin.
