Le premier serait apparu en Afrique (afrothériens), il y a environ 130 Ma, le second (xénarthres) en Amérique du Sud à la même époque, et le dernier (boréoeuthériens) sur les continents de l’hémisphère Nord, il y a environ 95 Ma.
Étymologie
De Boreoeutheria, lui-même composé du grec ancien βόρειο (« nord ») et de Eutheria (« euthériens »), par opposition aux afrothériens, euthériens d’origine africaine, et des xénarthres, euthériens d’origine sud-américaine.
